When family communication breaks down, everyone feels it
When the same arguments keep happening, or it feels like everyone in the house is walking on eggshells, it's easy for one person to end up carrying the blame for a pattern that actually belongs to the whole family. Communication breakdowns rarely have a single cause, even when it feels that way from the inside.
For parents, bringing in outside help can feel like admitting something has gone wrong. Often it's the opposite: it's the fastest way to get everyone back on the same page instead of repeating the same conversation.
And for families supporting a member going through a hard transition, whether that's a mental health struggle, an identity journey, or just a difficult stretch of life, the whole family often needs support, not just the person going through it.
Centrepeace exists for all of these families.
What is family counselling?
Family counselling, sometimes called family therapy, looks at how a family communicates and supports each other. Depending on what's brought your family in, sessions might focus on conflict, a major life transition, or supporting a family member through something difficult, like a mental health challenge or an identity journey.
Sessions can include the whole family together, individual family members alongside family sessions, or both, depending on what's actually needed. At Centrepeace, this is delivered as psychotherapy by a Registered Social Worker.
A Family Therapist Who Works With the Whole System, Not Just One Person
Family counselling at Centrepeace looks at the family as a whole system, rather than singling out one person as "the problem." Pamela Bailey, MSW, RSW, brings 22+ years of experience to this work in London, Ontario, and is authorized to provide psychotherapy under Ontario's Psychotherapy Act. Family work often overlaps with the identity, self-esteem, and mental health challenges she sees regularly in her individual practice.

What changes when your family has the right support
Family counselling gives everyone in the house a chance to be heard. Over time, that usually means fewer repeats of the same argument, and more room for family members to support each other through whatever any one person is navigating, whether that's identity, self-esteem, or a mental health challenge.
